If you’re doing a self-guided tour of Paris, you’ll definitely want to visit a few museums. But there are so many museums and exhibitions to see in Paris that we recommend narrowing it down to your favorite artists or interests.

Here are 10 Paris exhibitions for you to choose from if you’ll be visiting the City of Light in 2026/27!

1. Timeless Tintoretto, Musée Jacquemart-André

September 11, 2026–January 24, 2027

The Musée Jacquemart-André is dedicating its major fall exhibition to Tintoretto, one of the great painters of 16th-century Venice. For the first time in France, an exhibition will look across the artist's entire career, from the ambitious commissions that established his reputation to the influence his work had on later generations of painters. The setting is another reason to visit: the museum occupies an elegant 19th-century private mansion close to the Champs-Élysées.

2. Auguste Bartholdi: Liberty Enlightening the World, Musée d’Orsay

September 15, 2026–January 31, 2027

This exhibition explores the life and work of French sculptor Auguste Bartholdi, best known as the creator of the Statue of Liberty. Conceived as a gift from France to the United States, the statue was intended to commemorate the centenary of American independence before finally being inaugurated in New York in 1886.

Alongside the exhibition, the Musée d'Orsay is offering an optional virtual-reality experience that follows the creation of the monument from Paris to New York — an especially interesting addition for visitors curious about the long history connecting France and the United States.

3. Andy Warhol: Line and Image, Musée du Luxembourg

September 16, 2026–January 10, 2027

Andy Warhol may be synonymous with colorful silkscreen portraits, Campbell's soup cans and New York's Factory, but drawing remained central to his work throughout his career. This exhibition looks beyond his most familiar images to explore Warhol as a draftsman and the role drawing played in his artistic practice.

It's an opportunity to discover another side of an artist whose work helped transform the visual culture of the 20th century.

4. Cezanne and Us, Grand Palais

September 23, 2026–January 17, 2027

Rather than presenting Paul Cezanne in isolation, this major Grand Palais exhibition explores what happened when subsequent generations of artists discovered his work. Nearly 180 works trace his influence from the late 19th century to today, bringing Cezanne into conversation with artists including Gauguin, Matisse, Picasso, Mondrian, Joan Mitchell, Bridget Riley and Peter Doig.

It's an interesting way to understand why a painter who spent much of his career away from the Parisian art establishment became such an important figure in the development of modern art.

5. A Wardrobe of One’s Own: Dissident Femininities in the 19th Century, Palais Galliera

September 26, 2026–February 14, 2027

The Palais Galliera, Paris's fashion museum, turns its attention to women who challenged 19th-century expectations about how they should dress.

The exhibition explores the little-known history of women adopting elements of male dress at a time when clothing was tightly bound up with ideas about gender and social respectability. Through garments, images and historical stories, it looks at clothing not simply as fashion, but as a way of negotiating freedom, identity and the rules of society.

6. Monet, Painting Time, Musée de l’Orangerie

September 30, 2026–January 25, 2027

One hundred years after Claude Monet's death in December 1926, the Musée de l'Orangerie is examining one of the central ideas running through his work: time.

The exhibition explores how Monet tried to capture passing moments, changing light and the same landscapes under different conditions, from the rapid brushstrokes of his Impressionist works to the paintings of his later years. The setting is particularly fitting, as the Orangerie is home to Monet's monumental Water Lilies panels.

7. Mary Cassatt: Being Independent, Musée d’Orsay

October 6, 2026–January 31, 2027

The Musée d'Orsay marks the centenary of Mary Cassatt's death with a major exhibition dedicated to the American-born artist who became one of the central figures of French Impressionism.

Remarkably, France's national museums have never before organized a major exhibition devoted solely to Cassatt. Bringing together almost 80 paintings, pastels and prints spanning her career, the exhibition explores the independence that shaped both her life and her art.

Cassatt spent around six decades in France but remained proudly American, making this an especially interesting exhibition for American visitors to Paris.

8. Zurbarán 1598–1664, Louvre Museum

October 7, 2026–January 25, 2027

Francisco de Zurbarán is considered one of the great painters of Spain's 17th-century Golden Age, alongside Velázquez and Murillo.

Known for his striking use of light, simple compositions and remarkable naturalism, his paintings can feel surprisingly modern. The Louvre's retrospective takes a fresh look at his career and distinctive artistic style and offers a rare opportunity to see a major group of his works together in Paris.

9. Remember Me, Bourse de Commerce – Pinault Collection

October 7, 2026–January 18, 2027

To mark 200 years since the invention of photography, the Bourse de Commerce is devoting a major exhibition to the medium.

Around 700 works by more than 70 artists will fill the museum, examining the many ways photography has been used to record, manipulate, preserve and reinvent the world around us. The title comes from Barbara Kruger's Untitled (Remember me), which will be shown beneath the Bourse de Commerce's spectacular Rotunda.

10. Kerry James Marshall: The Histories, Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris

September 18, 2026–January 24, 2027

Born in Alabama and based in Chicago, Kerry James Marshall is the subject of his first exhibition in France. Seventy works spanning four decades will be on display, including eight new paintings made especially for the exhibition.

Marshall is known for his large-scale compositions that place Black figures at the center of Western art-historical traditions from which they have often been absent. His paintings draw on everything from history painting and popular culture to the Civil Rights and Black Power movements, creating richly layered works that reward taking your time over.

The exhibition arrives in Paris after presentations at London's Royal Academy of Arts and the Kunsthaus Zürich. While you're there, you can also explore the Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris's permanent collection for free.

Emilie was a joy to work with - we were completely pleased with our experience! Do not hesitate to use her services - she will do everything to make your trip perfect. We don't care for group/bus "one-size-fits-all" type of tours - but I didn't feel confident enough with my grasp of French to go it alone. France Just For You is the perfect solution …
