Spend a short week between Bordeaux Unesco city and its vineyards to the Basque Country, its mountains and coastline. We suggest to start and end in Bordeaux (station or airport).

Bordeaux region from Saint Emilion area

  • Start your journey in Bordeaux region for 3 nights, in a gorgeous mansion overlooking the Dordogne river. Your cozy B&B is located 7 miles to Saint Emilion worldwide famous wine town but away from the crowds. Isa, the lovely hostess, knows the whole area inside out and will be happy to help on last minute wine tastings. One night, you will enjoy a delicious table d’hôtes dinner in the majestic dining room – at a huge table.
  • Built along the banks of the Garonne river the opulent merchants' homes are very specific to Bordeaux. The rise of colonial trade together with the growth of the wine industry contributed to the amazing expansion of the Gironde region during the 18th century.

map to bordeaux and biarritz

  •  You will find everything you need: from villages nestled into the Medoc or St Emilion vineyards, to the bustling night life in Bordeaux. Also, bear in mind that Bordeaux's Sainte Catherine Street is the longest shopping street in Europe!
  • Very near Saint Emilion, we have planned a private tour to a famous wine estate: after visiting the estate from the cellars, to the vats, passing by the vineyards to understand the different grape variety, you will enjoy a lunch together with a tasting of 3 different wines.
  • On the 4th day, drive about 2hr30 to reach the Basque Country.

The Basque Country: pelote game, villages & food

  • Stay in a typical Basque villa for 4 nights, less than a mile to the beach & to the lively town - in the heart of the Basque Country.
  • From the Atlantic coastline, its waves and tanned surfers to the rugged Pyrenees Mountains. From the peacefulness of the Basque untouched villages to the lively nightlife in Saint Jean de Luz, the Basque Country will not disappoint.
  • We will craft your days so you get a feel of everything the Basque culture has to offer, and there is a lot: taste the local “Bayonne hams” after strolling a valley discovering the traditional and still alive mountain pig farming, get acquainted with the Basque weaving tradition, try to make your own Basque cake or stroll one of the many farmers markets.
  • Several “most beautiful Villages of France” will be on your scenic drives. Nature and outdoors lovers will enjoy endless walks and hikes in the Pyrenees foothills, occasional walkers will relax on the walks along the beaches and enjoy a coffee at a terrace watching surfers.
  • Get introduced to one of the most famous game of the Basque culture: la pelote. Meet with a former international player you will explain you about this mythical game history, the different variants…and then get on the ground and play: A very fun & cultural experience!
  • We will also plan for you to explore the very near Spanish Basque Country and spend some time in San Sebastian unmissable town – less than 1hr drive from your B&B.
